In 2018, Wexford County Council contacted the Walls Project about getting involved with a regeneration project they were implementing in the village of Ferns, Co.Wexford.
With the new extended motorway now bypassing Ferns, they saw it as an ideal opportunity to invite artists in to re-imagine what the village could look like by rebranding it as a cultural attraction for tourists. They wanted to draw on the historical background of the village, focusing on historical characters who are associated with the area – Diarmuid Mac Murrough; Strongbow and Aoife; and William Marshall and Isabel.
The client wanted these characters to be depicted on the walls of the village but with a modern twist.
